Searching for spiritual learning

Read this book. Amazing. It talks about there are always dark side of us that we are thought to suppress. But is the dark side that we are trying to suppress really that dark that we don’t want to understand it.

For example, aggression/anger is something always said that we should suppress. But in some situations, like getting angry serves the purpose of getting things done correctly, getting things to move towards a positive direction. Yet even this we should suppress or is considered bad. Is it really?

Secondly, why do we get angry at things that we see other people do. This author says this, which I think was rather profound. We get angry, upset about behavior because we are capable of doing exactly the same thing.

For example, we see a pet owner tugging a leash around the neck and we think how can that person be so cruel. However, if we are the one holding the leash and that pet has been behaving badly and we are annoyed angry, would we truly resist the urge to pull at that leash?  If we don’t recognise that we too have the exact same capacity to do the same how can we even feel or understand it.

Think about it, if we have never experience something and have absolutely no idea about something, can we truly feel any emotion about it. The best we can do is associate it as close as possible to something else we have experience. Most of the time, we don’t even realise what we associate it with, we just react.

I would recommend reading this book. It was quite interesting.
